Plenary Session – How Clinical Trial Supplies Can Help Close the Healthcare Gap

Date:
28 April 2025
Time:

According to the World Health Organization, at least half of the world’s population still lacks full coverage of essential health services.  Until now, the current industry standard is to have clinical trial sites destroy any unused supplies after the completion of a trial. The destruction of medical and lab supplies is wasteful and can be burdensome and costly.  Some organizations have recognized this problem and have developed innovative solutions to repurpose clinical trial supplies for global health. They work with pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and local partners to collect, sort, and distribute the surplus supplies to low- and middle-income countries, where they can make a difference in improving health outcomes and saving lives.
