As you mentioned there are quite a number of tools available.
Using them does offer major advantages over Excel in terms of reliability and control, but many require considerable time to evaluate and get started.
It can be helpful to have the possibility to make (initial) estimates without any IRT data available, while still offering the opportunity to import/ integrate when needed. Easily mapping out multiple scenarios is also very beneficial.
There are newer systems being developed which are more heavily “AI” driven, but there are obviously some major concerns about data reliability, “hallucination”, etc
